A company on its way to success
Karl Späh, who cut the first seals manually in his domestic cellar, founded the company SPÄH in 1964, which has been a highly successful business for more than four decades now. Today, it is run in the second generation by the managing director, Alfred Späh, whose daughter, Sandra Späh - following the footsteps of her grandfather and father - has been member of the board since 2006.
After only 8 years after the founding of the company, the success of the business made it possible to take over the company POPP, Bad Bevensen, and four years later QUADRIGA, Hamburg-Norderstedt. In 1986, Späh took over the PFTE-department of the company Huth. This made an entry to the market of turning and milling parts from plastics possible. SPÄH soon became a pioneer in the industry with the introduction of the water-jet cut technology for the production of high-end precision parts for seals. The expansion of the manufacture of polyurethane parts started with the takeover of the company Polytec in 1992. Späh was one of the first companies of the industry which was DIN EN ISO 9002 certified in 1993.
Like his father, Alfred Späh also has a keen sense of the company’s success. This sense is based on consecutive expansion of the fields of business (concerning personnel and machinery), the introduction of innovative methods of manufacturing, as well as the expansion of individual departments such as e.g. the stamping department, the cutting processing or the water-jet-cutting.
The project “fit for the future” in 2004 marked the final decision for the location in Germany as well as for a new, broad concept of logistics which the SPÄH group will realise by the end of 2009. In 2006, the company took over the field of business of HSS Yellow Seals of Edmund Hermsen in Hamburg. The expansion path continued with the takeover of the company SCHIPPL in Welden (the largest takeover so far) as well as the adoption of the product area of screen-printed sealing materials by Klinger in Idstein. Today, more than 550 qualified, committed and highly motivated employees in four sites of the SPÄH group of companies are part of this unique and ongoing track record.
