Machine setter – a “man’s job”?

Machine setter – a “man’s job”?

No! As you will discover, this job can be done by anyone if they put their mind to it.

Maria has been with SPÄH for seven years. In our interview, she explains first-hand what motivated her to become SPÄH’s first ever female machine setter:

SPÄH editorial team: Hi Maria, we really want to know one thing above all: Why did you want to become a machine setter? And how did you end up in this role?

Maria: It was a spontaneous decision. A new setter was needed in our department. Daniel then approached me and asked me if I was interested in the job. So I thought: why not? I like challenges and I’m glad I accepted this one.

SPÄH editorial team: Okay, that’s interesting. Would you say that this job is exclusively for men?

Maria: Definitely not! Whether you’re a man ☺ or a woman ☺, it’s important not to be put off by the large machines. I was even surprised myself how well everything worked out. Of course, it’s a bit physically demanding, but there’s nothing I can’t do with tools and help from my colleagues!

SPÄH editorial team: Did you always want to work in a manufacturing company?

Maria: No. After my training, I just knew that I didn’t want to sit in an office all day. After a few detours I ended up at SPÄH. I enjoyed the work from day one and felt very comfortable in our department, that’s why I stayed and I’m very glad I did! ☺

SPÄH editorial team: We’re glad you’re with us and that you enjoy your work! Thank you for your openness and the insights, Maria!
